One year, and a lot of cardboard

A year ago, someone ordered the first GRAINED box.

There was no archive of previous editions to look through. No year of photographs, feedback or familiar faces. They chose to try something that was only just beginning. I still think about that.

Since then, GRAINED has involved a lot of tasting, searching, packing and changing our minds. A lot of cardboard. A lot of asking whether a product was interesting enough to share, and whether the things we had chosen made sense together.

We have travelled through places and moods: Tokyo Ritual, Mediterranean Summer, Beach Bag, Outdoor Dinner. Each edition has been a way of following our curiosity and inviting you to follow yours.

Some of the most useful conversations have happened after the boxes arrived. What you loved. What felt too familiar. What you wished you could find more easily. The products you came back for, and the ones that weren’t quite your thing.

Those conversations change what we look for.

Then came the Living Room on Kungsholmen. A place where you could pick something up, turn the packaging over, ask a question or tell us what you had made with last month’s discovery. GRAINED became something we could talk about across a table.

For our anniversary edition, we kept returning to dusty lavender, brown and beige. We wanted the box to feel like a small collection of everything that interests us: food, colour, music, scent and the connections between them.

We are still figuring things out. I suspect that is part of why I enjoy it.

To everyone who ordered a box, visited the shop, shared a discovery or told us honestly what they thought: thank you. Especially those who took a chance before there was much to show.

You helped give GRAINED its first year.
